Our Commitment to Child Safety

Protecting children is central to how we design and operate our Platform.

Our Platform is built to provide safe educational experiences for children while protecting privacy, wellbeing, and personal data.

We design our systems in line with:

  • UK GDPR
  • Data Protection Act 2018
  • ICO Children’s Code (Age Appropriate Design Code)

Our guiding principle is simple:

Children’s safety comes before engagement, growth, or commercial interests.

How AI Is Used in Our Platform

We use artificial intelligence (AI) to support educational learning.

AI features may help with:

  • spelling correction
  • grammar analysis
  • sentence checking
  • contextual word usage
  • learning feedback

AI is used only to improve the learning experience.

Our AI is restricted by design.

This means children cannot use the Platform as an unrestricted AI chatbot or ask open-ended questions unrelated to learning activities.

What AI Cannot Do

Our AI is specifically designed not to:

  • have unrestricted conversations
  • answer arbitrary prompts
  • provide internet search results
  • generate harmful content intentionally
  • encourage addictive behaviour
  • manipulate children emotionally

The AI operates only within the educational boundaries of the Platform.

Safety Restrictions

We apply technical safeguards to reduce risk.

These may include:

  • prompt restrictions
  • output filtering
  • content moderation
  • safety guardrails
  • inappropriate language detection
  • abuse prevention systems

These controls help reduce the likelihood of harmful or unsafe AI outputs.

Personal Information Safety

Children should never enter personal information into exercises or text boxes.

Examples of personal information include:

  • full name
  • home address
  • phone number
  • email address
  • school name
  • passwords
  • family financial information

Parents and guardians are encouraged to remind children not to share personal details online.

AI Limitations

Although we use safety controls, AI is not perfect.

AI may occasionally:

  • misunderstand text
  • give incorrect feedback
  • make grammatical mistakes
  • produce inaccurate suggestions

AI-generated feedback should be treated as supportive guidance, not absolute truth.

Where appropriate, parents or guardians should review important learning outputs.

Human Oversight

We do not rely solely on AI for child safety.

Human oversight remains important.

We may review reports, flagged activity, or safety incidents to:

  • investigate misuse
  • improve safeguards
  • prevent harmful behaviour

Where necessary, we may suspend or restrict accounts.

No Social or Chat Features

Our Platform does not provide public social features such as:

  • public chat rooms
  • direct messaging
  • friend requests
  • public commenting
  • user-to-user messaging

This significantly reduces common online safety risks such as:

  • bullying
  • grooming
  • harassment
  • inappropriate contact

Data Sent to AI Providers

Some educational text submitted by users may be processed by trusted AI providers, including OpenAI.

We minimise data shared with AI providers wherever possible.

We aim to ensure:

  • only necessary text is processed
  • sensitive information is minimised
  • data is handled securely
  • contractual safeguards are in place

We do not intentionally send sensitive personal information to AI systems.

Privacy by Design

Child safety is built into our product design.

We aim to ensure:

  • minimal data collection
  • high privacy defaults
  • no behavioural advertising
  • no manipulative design
  • no dark patterns
  • age-appropriate experiences

We do not design features to maximise screen addiction or compulsive usage.

Parent and Guardian Responsibilities

Parents and guardians play an important role in online safety.

We encourage parents to:

  • supervise younger children
  • review learning progress
  • discuss safe online behaviour
  • remind children not to share personal information

Children under 13 should use the Platform with appropriate parental involvement.

Reporting Concerns

We take safety reports seriously and investigate promptly. Please contact us immediately if you believe:

  • AI produced unsafe content
  • your child encountered harmful material
  • someone misused the Platform
  • there is a safeguarding concern

Policy Updates

We may update this policy as our Platform evolves.

We will notify users of material changes where appropriate.
